Downtime is a subject near and dear to my heart. From the “Power of Daydreaming,” to “Resting in the Grace of the World,” previously posted here on the Journey Home, there is no limit to how to cultivate that thing we could all use more of: rest.
To inspire us all to take time to simply be, I thought I’d start the new year off with some images of downtime from around the world: people lounging, people catching a few Zs, people stealing time for themselves. You can see them below.
Speaking of “stealing time,” why do we still say that? We shouldn’t have to steal time for ourselves. We should claim it as ours. Without apology.
How do you feel about downtime? How do you like to cultivate downtime? What gets in your way of cultivating it?
Let’s open up the conversation…
So that we can all rest a bit more easily in this new year.
Ahhh zzzzz 😴🙌🏼

Downtime is sacred. It is a "gift" time. I turned 80 in November. My body, mind and spirit long for rest and restoration. It is part of my self-care routine now. And I am grateful!
I like your idea that we shouldn’t have to steal time. And I would add that the word downtime could even be a negative sounding word. As opposed to our always up world of positivity. Believe me I love being positive but it’s taken me a while to embrace that I can have downtime. So maybe I need to embrace the word too! 😀 And love time that is free of calls and phone messages. Solo time is my true downtime.
