It All Matters
Even the smallest, invisible acts of kindness and tending make a difference... (and have a way of guiding us home)
“It all matters. That someone turns out the lamp, picks up the windblown wrapper, says hello to the invalid, pays at the unattended lot, listens to the repeated tale, folds the abandoned laundry, plays the game fairly, tells the story honestly, acknowledges help, gives credit, says good night, resists temptation, wipes the counter, waits at the yellow, makes the bed, tips the maid, remembers the illness, congratulates the victor, accepts the consequences, takes a stand, steps up, offers a hand, goes first, goes last, chooses the small portion, teaches the child, tends to the dying, comforts the grieving, removes the splinter, wipes the tear, directs the lost, touches the lonely, is the whole thing.
What is most beautiful is least acknowledged.”
― Laura McBride, We Are Called to Rise
Here’s another act of kindness that matters too… (a video clip that explains what’s going on in the photo above)…
And my blessing that goes with all of the above…
May all our little (unacknowledged) turtle actions make our beautiful world even more beautiful.
May we accept and receive the support that is freely (and often invisibly) offered along the way.
And like these turtles, may we be held and guided as we journey home — to the place that most nourishes and makes us come alive.
Ahhh ❤️🙏🏼
I’m sitting in the chair, waiting my turn at my dentist office and I read this. The tears come because I feel like I spend my days doing things that don’t really seem to matter. Caregiving my 89-year-old mother, who has lived with us for 3 1/2 years due to health challenges. Helping with the grandkids when their parents are both working, and doing all the things that the woman of the household always seems to end up doing. Thank you for the encouragement, and also for the reminder that it does matter.
Helping the turtles home is such a lovely example of kindness and how all living creatures are connected.
