Watching a beloved Mother come to life, one conscious brush stroke at a time
It’s not every day that you get a chance to experience an artist work their magic on a wall in your neighborhood; to see how a simple sketch becomes a fully realized work of art; to witness the most beloved Mother of Mexico – Guadalupe – as she comes to life, one conscious brush stroke at a time.
Each day was like opening a gift.
I loved watching the artist’s painstaking attention to detail. I loved watching how the late afternoon light danced on the wall to make the piece glow and transform into a luminous, mystical presence in the dark of night.
I loved watching others’ reactions: how people would stop to share their delight; or take a moment to reverentially cross themselves as they passed by; or just stand in quiet awe. It affected everyone in different ways.
All this is made possible by the artist, Roberto Gonzalez, and Casa Schuck Hotel who commissioned the piece. Grateful that I could be there in person to experience and capture most of this project.
So here it is (below), from my heart to yours, a 90-second love letter to my Mexico homeland and San Miguel de Allende. (Best with sound).
What is something wondrous you’ve watched come to life that has surprised and delighted you?
