Finding the Perfect in the Imperfect
What imperfect conditions can reveal when we dance with them
“Somewhere, there is the ideal soil for growing mangoes. Or the best possible wave for surfing. Or the most romantic sunset for a proposal.
But it’s not right here and it’s not right now.
Our success has a lot to do with how we dance with conditions that aren’t quite perfect.”1

That mango in the photo is about the most perfect mango I’ve ever seen. I found it lying all by itself on a random patch of earth on the French Polynesian island of Bora Bora.
A perfect, stray mango on a very muddy path, drenched in rain…
Gleaming.
I could easily have missed it if I’d been bumming out about the mud, or the torrential rainstorm that had caught us by surprise and soaked us to the bone.
It reminds me that sometimes you’ll find the most perfect mango (or whatever it is you are wishing or striving for) amidst the most imperfect conditions.
Sometimes you just have to release the idea that you’ll find it in the place that you thought you would, or in the way you would. Or as Seth Godin suggests, “dance with the conditions that aren’t quite perfect.”
Ahhh 🙌🏼
In case you missed it…
New Year, New You
Creating this journey has felt a lot like moving into a new house. You’re excited with all the possibilities, but you’re not sure where all the furniture goes, if it fits, or even if you need some of it. What remains consistent is my commitment to deliver content that is elevating and nourishing, beautiful and uncluttered; content that helps us stretch and see beyond ourselves...

ahhh , what eyes you had to really see the beauty in the mud!
