It was fun to watch this! I have many letters & cards to sort through, but of course those and my old photos will be the last to be sorted. I miss letter writing and receiving!
Yes, I save letters and cards too. Last year I went through a bunch of the cards, put aside the ones I wanted to read and sent a lot of the cards to a place that recycles them. St. Jude's Children's Hospital. Most of the ones I saved I have not reread yet. A few. Ones from family. I have found several from a friend, long passed that have just made my day. Lovely to have touching of a dear friend from beyond the veil. I send cards. A lot. I know it is old school. But I also know that friends and family appreciate them. My husband says "I give good card". Expensive sometimes but so worth it. And I pick stamps to match the folks or my mood. It is just my way of saying to someone. "I see you". So even though it is old school and not as ecological, I plan on keeping doing it as it brings folks a lot of joy.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us, Melissa. I so appreciate beautiful cards and the people who send them. It’s a way to show our love, and why not! Thank you for mentioning the St. Jude’s Children’s hospital as a way to recycle — to pass the beauty and joy forward!
Yes! I love letters and I like to save the stamps too. Several years ago I went through a file of letters and sent my friends all their old letters. Some were bittersweet and some just plain sad and some full of joy. But they were so happy to receive them. Conversely I got to have my letters that several of my friends saved for me. What a treat to read about the young me. Gosh! I love seeing the growth! 😂 Also one of my friends asked my daughter for my old stamina and she surprised me with making a beautiful framed piece of art that hang up with a collage of the old stamps. I always wondered what I would do with them. I’m still working on clearing so much but oh those letters are very special to me.
Thank you, Ruth. Like you, I too appreciated when my mom returned some of the letters I had written to my parents back in the day. It’s like opening a time capsule. Framing a collage of old stamps is such a wonderful idea! 🤩
And the old letters I wrote to my folks have given my adult daughters some giggles. Like when I wrote my mom while overseas as a young military wife that I wanted her video record some Miami Vice episodes! 😂 What a time capsule! Priceless. Oh how we’ve grown!
