Talking Heads
From wild to manicured, what is the most radical thing you’ve done to your hair? Here's some images to help you remember.
Last week’s post (and poll) on hair — beginning with my own early obsessions with it — seems to have tapped into something deep. It generated the most comments I’ve seen since we began journeying home together over a year ago.
And oh, to what lengths (pun intended) we’ve gone to look good, fit in, and tame that mop we carry around on our heads.
Thank you for sharing your heartfelt, animated, and moving stories, y’all. I could relate to so many of them.
But why stop there?
It was my eclectic collection of headshots (like the ones I’m featuring today) that got me thinking:
What is the most radical thing you have done with, or to, your hair?
Whether manicured or manic, what prompted you to make the change? What did you love about it? Regret about it?
Perhaps an artist’s perspective (below) can help tweak your memory.

(PS, also below: the results from last week’s poll.)

Bold over. It was this piece made with a 2017 iPhone by the young artist Michael Amofah that pulled me right in from across the exhibit hall:
Wearing proud. Doesn’t she look like a goddess? Saw this one at a gallery in San Miguel de Allende:
Yin and yang. Two versions of two icons… The first, a self-portrait composition, was how Jean-Michel Basquiat introduced himself to his idol, the legendary Andy Warhol. In the second by photographer Michael Halsband they’ve become well-established collaborators (as it were).
Taking it in. Remember last week’s close up (also shown at top)? Here’s the full painting by Hokusai:
Hats on …And that’s a wrap!
Poll from last week’s post
In case you missed it….
From ‘hat hair’ to ‘bad hair days,’ primping to scrunching, what is your relationship with your hair? Here’s mine… 💇♀️👩🦳
I think quite literally...every time I sit in my hair stylist's chair...I say - let's do something sassy. I need a change. The truth is that I'm allergic to change. I like things to stay the same, so I use my hair to keep me on my toes and from getting stuck in a rut. Right now, I have pretty dramatic color blocking.
I’d love to see the poll but it says something went wrong.
